Japan invents food-scented bath salts, because of course it does

Move over, lavender and rosewater. The next beauty trend is bath salts that smell like gyoza dumplings, edamame and even cheese pizza.

Move over, lavender and rose water – there’s a new beauty trend to contend with. Japan has invented food-scented bath salts, because who doesn’t want to smell like a dumpling after they bathe?

Japanese novelty retail chain Village Vanguard is bypassing traditional (read: boring) scents while developing their new line of bath products, instead opting for more robust profiles (read: cheese pizza, gyoza and even barbecued meats). If you’ve ever wanted to smell exactly like a coriander stem, a bowl of steamed edamame beans or a freshly poured pint of beer, this is your chance.

The latest collection of weird scents builds on popularity garnered from Village Vanguard’s first release of food-scented bath salts last year, which means this isn’t even a new thing. Japan, you’ve done it again.

While these salts aren’t actually edible, bathing in a bath that legitimately smells like garlic and meat will surely do wonders for your life, both in and outside the bathroom. Are we recommending soaking in a cheese pizza scented bath just before that Tinder date? We’ll leave that open to interpretation.

The new food-scented bath salts are available on Village Vanguard’s online store, if you dare.
