Holly Fox is an LA based graphic designer by day who moonlights as a sugar cookie baker by night. Although, by the looks of her adorable treats on , you’d be hard pressed to call her a hobby baker - they’re just so damn aesthetically pleasing.
“I’ve baked Christmas cookies with my family for as long as I can remember, but I started trying out royal icing about five - six years ago,” she explains to SBS. “Around that time, I also decided it was time to perfect my own sugar cookie recipe!”
As someone who spends her days using her creative eye for graphic design it probably comes as no surprise that it helps with her delightful cookies. “My graphic design aesthetic is very clean and bold, and I think that naturally carries over to my cookies. I love baking for the shape and colour of the cookies [and] I get my inspiration from everywhere! I love anything bright, colourful, and graphic. Usually when I start mixing my icing colours I don't have a plan, I just wing it!”
For the budding sugar cookie bakers, Fox warns that this biz is no simple feat. “Oh gosh, [it takes] longer than you think! I'll easily put in a 14-hour shift on a Saturday...those little gems take time!”
And how does she manage to bake, design, fill orders and live her best life? “Since I'm at the office from 9-5, all of my baking / icing / shipping needs to be done at night and on weekends. I take Fridays off from anything baking related- it really gives new meaning to TGIF!”
