Diets have long been controversial, with many experts questioning their efficacy for long-term weight loss success. One such expert, Australia's Dr Nick Fuller, believes that the best way for those who want to lose weight is to adjust your body's 'set point' - the weight at which it is comfortable at being. And how do you achieve this? Slow things down.

“There is no doubt that you can lose weight by dieting in the short-term. But you will often regain weight after the diet ends, and regain more weight than you were initially trying to lose," Dr Fuller says.

His new book, Interval Weight Loss, encourages people to lose a small amount (say, two kilograms in a month) and then maintain this weight for a period, to reset what the body considers normal.

“The great thing about interval weight loss is that it is not a diet,” he says.
