全國舉行澳新軍團日黎明紀念儀式，紀念一次大戰加利波利半島戰役，以及在大戰中陣亡的逾 6 萬名澳軍。時至今天，澳新軍團日紀念「所有在戰爭、衝突和維和任務中陣亡的澳新軍人」，和認同「全體參軍者的貢獻和付出」。

加利波利半島戰事在 1915 年爆發，造成大約 8709 名澳洲軍人和 2721 名新西蘭軍人死亡。

在雪梨，有幾千人出席馬丁廣場的黎明悼念儀式。澳洲艦隊司令邁耶（Stuart Mayer）少將在儀式上致辭。

他說，今年是多場戰役的重要週年紀念，包括在 1942 年澳洲遭受日本軍隊的空襲，至今已 75 年。

在坎培拉澳洲戰爭紀念館的紀念儀式，退伍軍人兼殘疾人士運動員麥格拉特（Curtis McGrath）講述他在阿富汗的戰士中的經歷。

麥格拉特說，在五年前阿富汗烏魯茲甘省的一場戰役中，敵人穿著的不是軍隊制服；而策動暴力衝突的不再是政府軍。他又說爆炸裝置變得越來越精細，愈來愈難發現，也愈來愈致命。

表揚原住民退伍軍人

原住民退伍軍人今日首次在堪培拉率領全國澳新軍團日遊行。

超過一千名原住民及托勒斯島民曾經參與第一次世界大戰，他們當時仍未獲准參與投票，亦未有算在人口統計中。

澳洲戰爭紀念館總監尼爾遜博士對澳州廣播公司表示，澳州過去多年都未有表揚過原住民士兵。

尼爾遜博士說，在英國第一艦隊抵達澳州後，對原住民的生活帶來破壞，而此後原住民的第四第五代卻志願參軍，為當時澳州這個年青國家而服役與戰死，直至今天都一樣，但澳州在過去一段時間都並未有表揚過他們。
