'This is the only way I can feed my family': South Sudanese refugee-run farms in Kakurm Refugee Camp.

Manyuon Mayen is a refugee for the second time in Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kenya. This time, he has to decide to feed his family but not rely on what the United Nations provides. Manyuon first came to Kakuma in 1998 and then went back to South Sudan after the peace was signed.

In South Sudan, he was a businessman, but that business failed after the economy collapsed in South Sudan. Manyuon decides to return to Kakuma Refugee Camp. Without employment, Manyuon asked a Turkana friend for the small land so that he can try farming. 

Kakuma is dry land, and there are no rains often. Manyuon resorted to irrigation. In that farm, Manyuon is facing challenges, but he was able to harvest many plants, including Okra, Cassavas and many more. Manyuon was interviewed by SBS Dinka stringer in Kakuma Refugee camp.
