Two music groups of Greek Australian musicians are hosting an online singing workshop with the renowned vocalist from Cyprus, Vasiliki Anastasiou. Ms Anastasiou talks to SBS Greek.


Participants will learn 4 lullabies in Cypriot, Cretan, Griko (language from Southern Italy), and Ladino (Sephardic language). Musician Vicky Anastasiou will be explaining important concepts in singing like breathing, vowel placement, vocal registers, and warm-up routine. 

The participants will be spent learning the lyrics and melody of each lullaby. The online workshop is hosted by "Sydney Greek Jam" and "Rebetika in Melbourne".

"The Amalgamation Choir", the all-female-15piece choir was created by Ms Anastasiou in 2014. Their repertoire revolves around polyphonic adaptations of traditional Mediterranean music through a modern approach.

The group has performed in France (Arrée Voce festival), at Cyprus' Presidential Palace and at the opening ceremony of Paphos Cultural Capital of Europe in 2017.

Also, it performed as an opening act for famous Bosnian musician Goran Bregović. The "Amalgamation Choir" has been awarded by the Cyprus Youth Organization the Culture Award for the year 2016.
