Indian woman takes own life along with baby's in Melbourne's CBD

Bodies of a woman and a baby who fell to their deaths from the sixth floor of a building were found in the courtyard of their multi-storied apartment complex in Melbourne.

The 31-year-old woman who died along with her four-month-old baby at City Point apartments on the corner of Bourke and Spencer streets on Thursday morning has been identified.

Victoria Police is treating it as a murder-suicide case, ABC reported.

The Indian national daily has identified the woman as Supraja, who hailed from the tech-city Hyderabad. TOI reports that Supraja had married Srinivas, an engineer, in 2006.

The couple had two children, including the four-month-old infant.

Supraja's parents who reside at Reddy Colony in Chandannagar in Hyderabad, confirmed to TOI that they got information about the death of their daughter and grandson, but refused to divulge more details.

Earlier on Thursday, family and friends had gathered at the building, where some of the relatives were seen talking to the police.

reported that the husband of the deceased woman had collapsed on the scene and had to be admitted to hospital. 

A report is being prepared by detectives for the coroner.
