"If you open your mind to changes and new ideas to deal with mental health issues it could help you mentally and physically healthy," said Yingyee Lor.

Yingyee Lor, founder and CEO of Faithful Consulting LLC who graduated with Ph.D. in education (ABD) in Organizational Psychology, Masters Degree in Counseling, and a Bachelors Degree in Social Work and held different roles with different organisations said that she wanted 'Hmong communities to be both mentally and physically healthy' during Mental Health Day, Mental Health Week and Mental Health Month.

She said that research has shown that there are many factors that contributed to mental health issues particularly genetic and environment.

In terms of genetic, those who have family history of mental health issues are more prone to mental health problem, whereas environmental factors such as anxiety, cultural barriers, ways of life, stress, depression from daily routines such as working, studying or loosing some loved ones can contribute to mental health issues.
You need to open your mind and learn more about mental health. It is regarded as an illness and there are treatments. And I want Hmong communities to see mental health as a significant issue that need to be dealt with properly, and so we can prevent people from committing suicide or experiencing mental health issues.

Therefore, Yengyee Lor wants Hmong communities to change their mindsets and open to new ideas to deal with this mental health issues, as it is still new for Hmong communities, where we still regard this matter as personal matter and should not be told or discussed where it is still a matter of stigma and being stereotyped as weakness.

Ms Lor wants Hmong communities to recognise mental health as important matter that needed to be dealt with properly through counseling with doctors or psychologists to prevent us from having the thought of committing suicide, harming others or self-harm, therefore, hopefully Hmong communities will be mentally and physically healthy.
