Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh has offered his government's resignation to President Mahmoud Abbas.

The Palestinian Authority rules parts of the occupied West Bank.

He says he's resigning due to the escalating violence in the territory and the war on Gaza.

"This decision comes based on the political, security and economic developments that are related to the offensive on our people in Gaza, and the unprecedented escalation in the West Bank and Jerusalem, and to what our people and Palestinian cause are facing, as well as our political system that had been aggressively attacked in an unprecedented manner."

It comes amid pressure from the US for the PA to work on a political structure that can govern a Palestinian state when the war ends.

Israel says it will not accept Palestinian Authority rule over Gaza after the war.

The head of NATO has welcomed a vote by the Hungarian parliament paving the way for Sweden to join the alliance.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has described the vote as a "historic day" that completes the process of Sweden's security policy shift after 200 years of neutrality.

Sweden's NATO membership was supported by 188 MPs in the Hungarian parliament after pressure on Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's government from NATO allies.

It was feared Mr Orban, Russian President Vladimir Putin's closest ally in the bloc, would prevent the accession of Sweden, who applied to join alongside neighbor Finland following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Mr Stoltenberg says the vote proves Mr Putin had not succeeded in "closing NATO's door", but says NATO troops will not be deployed to Ukraine.

"We must remember what this is, this is a war of aggression by Russia against Ukraine and blatantly violating international law. According to international law, Ukraine, of course, has the right to self-defense, and we have the right to support them in upholding that right. And that's exactly what NATO allies are doing and will continue to do."

Andy Murray has hinted that this season could be his last after recording his 500th hardcourt win.

The Brit has reached the milestone with a victory over Canada's Denis Shapovalov in the first round of the Dubai Tennis Championships on Monday (February 26).

The 36-year-old has joined Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Andre Agassi and Rafael Nadal as the only players to reach 500 wins on the surface in the professional era.

Murray says he is proud of the achievement, after just his second win this year, following a first-round exit at the recent Australian Open.

"500 is a lot of matches so I'm very proud of that. Obviously the list that you've given there, there aren't many players that have done that, so, great to get to 500 before I'm done."

"We must remember what this is, this is a war of aggression by Russia against Ukraine and blatantly violating international law. According to international law, Ukraine, of course, has the right to self-defense, and we have the right to support them in upholding that right. And that's exactly what NATO allies are doing and will continue to do."

"500 is a lot of matches so I'm very proud of that. Obviously the list that you've given there, there aren't many players that have done that, so, great to get to 500 before I'm done."
