Brisbane City Council’s special appeal to support Alisher family has so far collected over $90,000.
With a $10,000 donation from the council itself the fundraising started in November to support the family of Manmeet Sharma, a Council bus driver who was tragically killed on Friday 28 October 2016
reported that as of Thursday, 12th January, $90,779.20 had been donated to the 'Manmeeet Alisher Trust' set by the local council.
Deputy Mayor Adrian Schrinner told that the local community has come forward with big hearts.
The biggest donation of $35,000 came from Brisbane's local Indian-Australian community ($25,000 from Brisbane Sikh Temple Logan Road, $6500 from Guru Nanak Sikh Temple Inala, $2500 from Sikh Sabha Sikh Temple Taigum, $1000 Manjit Boparai).
The donations will be directed towards the Sharma family from village Alisher, Sangrur- Punjab, India.

29-year-old Manmeet Sharma had been supporting his family in India with his job as a bus driver.

The Brisbane council has also promised to honour Manmeet Sharma with a permanent memorial, with details to be confirmed following consultation with the local community.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk in November told state parliament everyone who knew Mr Alisher described him as a generous person who would always help those in need.
Manmeet who was popular within the Punjabi community in Australia as a singer and showbiz promoter came to Australia at an age of 21.
Manmeet’s death prompted strong concerns and shock-waves within Indian-Australian community.
A trial is underway with 48-year-old Anthony Mark Edward O'Donohue being charged with Manmeet’s murder, arson and several counts of attempted murder.
The next hearing date for Manmeet Alisher trial is 23rd January.
