The newly built memorial was unveiled in Sunnybank, Brisbane on Saturday, 18th of November.

The memorial is specifically devoted in commemoration of the Australians of Indian heritage who served the Nation in World War 1 and 2.

Rashpal Singh Heyer who is also a member of Australians of Indian Heritage War Memorial Committee (AIHWMC) told SBS Punjabi that it was a proud moment for Indian-Australian community.

“The memorial is the result of a two year commitment by the Indian-Australian community who was well supported by RSL and both local & federal Governments,” said Mr Heyer.

“It honours the many brave Australian soldiers of Indian heritage who fought for Australia and made the supreme sacrifice.

“So far we have failed to tell the mainstream Australian community about the martial contributions of Indian and Sikh soldiers in Australia and elsewhere.”

“This monument will remind everyone the role Indian soldiers played in the bloodiest conflicts of history.

“It is important that we remember them, the fallen, who fought for this land."
Rashpal Singh Heyer on the behalf of Australians of Indian Heritage War Memorial Committee (AIHWMC) also thanked those who had been involved and donated towards the establishment of this monument.

“A gathering of approximately two hundred marked the occasion. It had all the pomp and ceremony of a military parade,” said Mr Heyer.

“We are very thankful to each and every one who turned up to mark the occasion despite adverse weather and heavy rain.”
