Facebook has removed former Liberal MP Craig Kelly's controversial page for repeatedly breaching its misinformation policy by promoting unproven coronavirus treatments.
Mr Kelly in February quit the Liberal Party after being given a stern warning about the content of his social media posts by Prime Minister Scott Morrison.
He had continued to back unproven COVID-19 treatments against the advice of Australia's medical authorities, prompting concerns his actions were
In a statement, a spokesperson for Facebook confirmed his page had been taken down.
"We don’t allow anyone, including elected officials, to share misinformation about COVID-19 that could lead to imminent physical harm or COVID-19 vaccines that have been debunked by public health experts," the spokesperson said.
"We have clear policies against this type of content and have removed Mr Kelly’s Facebook Page for repeated violations of this policy."
Mr Kelly later used another social media platform to accuse Facebook of censoring his political speech.
He also denied claims he has spread misinformation about COVID-19 treatments.
"It's wrong to censor the free speech of elected officials as it threatens our democracy," he said on Twitter.
"It's not misinformation to have a difference of opinion. The idea that the faceless people of Facebook are purveyors of all truth is OUTRAGEOUS!"
Mr Kelly joined the crossbench as an independent MP earlier this year after his resignation from the Liberal party.
