The Senate will formally condemn US presidential candidate Donald Trump's comments bragging about sexual assault if the Australian Greens get their way.

Greens leader Richard Di Natale labelled Mr Trump "a sexist and racist pig who is completely unfit for office" and asked the Senate and government to condemn the Republican and hate speech in all forms.

The motion he wants the Senate to agree to also asks that all senators refrain from making racist or sexist comments both in the chamber and outside it, and reflect on the "divisive, destructive impact" of hate speech by political candidates and MPs.
