The About Damn Time singer, whose real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson, took to social media on Saturday to express her frustration at being the butt of jokes due to her looks.

eading fans to speculate that she was exiting the music industry.

However, the 35-year-old took to Instagram on Wednesday morning to explain what she meant.
"I just need to clarify that when I say I quit, I mean I quit giving any negative energy attention," Lizzo said.

"What I'm not going to quit is the joy of my life, which is making music, which is connecting to people.

"Because I know I'm not alone. In no way, shape or form am I the only person who is experiencing that negative voice that seems to be louder than the positive."

She hoped to inspire others to stand up for themselves and not let negative comments win.
Lizzo thanked her fans for the love that she has received over recent days and said it "means more than you know".

Lizzo has also faced criticism for her choice to perform for US President Joe Biden, with the US arming and aiding Israel in its war against Hamas in Gaza that has led to tens of thousands of civilian casualties.
