Consumer Protection has issued a warning to West Australian pet buyers following a spike in puppy sale scams.

Three people have been scammed in three weeks trying to buy a puppy online, with one victim paying $1000 to a Cameroon account.

Consumer Protection spokesman Alan Hynd said aspiring pet owners should be wary of purchasing a puppy online, where scammers often try to claim shipping fees in order to secure the victim's bank details.
