This is who the Matildas will play at the Paris Olympics

The Australian team has been dealt a challenging hand on their mission to win their first Olympic medal.

The top line: The Matildas have been placed in Group B for the 2024 Paris Olympics, alongside Germany, the United States, and either Zambia or Morocco.

The bigger picture: The US team has won gold four times at the Olympics and is ranked fourth in the world while Germany is ranked fifth.

The Matildas, ranked 12th, defeated Uzbekistan 13-0 on aggregate in February to secure their spot in Paris.

What else to know: Captain Sam Kerr is unlikely to play in the Olympics after an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.
