This $10m number plate is up for auction for the first time in more than 100 years

Heritage vehicle number plate New South Wales 1 is being offered for sale via public auction for the first time in 110 years.

Offered by Lloyd's Auctioneers and Valuers of Sydney, the current bid for NSW 1, which will take place on 27 January, stands at a record-breaking $10,010,000.

The plates were first issued to a vehicle of the state’s first Police Commissioner.
They were then acquired by Sir Frederick Stewart, the successful Newcastle railwayman turned bus company owner and founding chairman of Australian National Airways, who had them on his Oldsmobile before his passing in 1961.

They were then transferred to his widow who passed away in 2000, but have only come up for auction now.

On its website, Lloyd's indicates bidders need to be pre-approved to bid. NSW plate Number 4 sold for a record-setting $2.45 million in 2017.
