'Classroom had been turned into a killing field' - Biden calls for ban on assault weapons

After meeting with members of the community of Uvalde, US President Joe Biden has made a plea to Congress to act on gun control measures, calling for assault weapons to be banned or reach a compromise around effective restrictions. He noted that after a 1994 law that banned assault weapons with a high capacity magazine lapsed in 2004, 'mass shootings tripled'.
