Funding boost to house AUKUS subs at WA naval base

Additional funding is being injected to upgrade a Western Australian naval base, in order to host American and British submarines from 2026. It’s part of the AUKUS deal, which will see HMAS Stirling in Perth eventually become home to three nuclear-powered Virginia-class submarines. But there are concerns the relationship could increase tensions in our region and impact the environment. Western Australia correspondent Christopher Tan filed this report.
