Former World No.1 and three-time grand slam winner Ash Barty has parents across the nation cheering, after she announced the release of a six-book series of children's books called 'Little Ash'.

The books are based on the Ngarigo woman's life, both on and off the court.

The series is a collaboration with Kulkalgal co-author Jasmin McGaughey and Gamilaraay artist Jade Goodwin.

“It’s the day of the tennis tournament and Ash is so excited to compete,” reads an excerpt posted by publisher Harper Collins .

“But Ash forgets her favourite hat, there’s a flat tyre and Ash wonders how they will ever get there! Will Ash arrive in time for her big match?”

Barty revealed that her five year old niece Lucy was the inspiration for the project, which she described as "so much fun."

The tennis great called Lucy her "North Star", who was at the perfect age to understand the stories her aunty would be penning.
The 25-year-old accomplished a historic feat earlier in the year, becoming the first local player to win the Australian Open title since Chris O'Neil in 1978.

The momentous occasion came shortly after she claimed major titles at both Wimbledon and the French Open.

Last month, Barty stunned millions of fans around the world when she announced she was retiring to "pursue other dreams".

While her latest venture as an author was a career move few anticipated, the children's books are set to hit shelves in July.

Barty revealed that once published, she plans to read the books to kids in rural communities and hopes to inspire young readers.

She has previously disclosed her intentions to release a memoir later in the year.
