The National Indigenous Music Awards (NIMAs) returned home to Larrakia Country, going ahead for the first time since 2019.

The awards night recognised the new generation of First Nations talent and paid tribute to past performers and their legacies.

Music legends honoured

Saturday night's event at the Darwin Amphitheatre included a tribute to Gunditjamara and Bundjalung songman Archie Roach, just a week after he passed away at age 66.

Emma Donovan and Fred Leone led the homage to Uncle Archie, performing 'We Won't Cry'.

Acclaimed Yolŋu singer Gurrumul was inducted into the NIMAs Hall of Fame. He passed away in 2017.

Gurrumul's brother and Saltwater Band co-founder Manuel Dhurrkay led the commemoration.

There were also performances from Birdz, Yirrmal, and Emma Donovan and the Putbacks.

The Red Flag Dancers also took to the stage, off the back of the Garma festival.
