Indigenous talent leads the pack in ARIA nominations

Jessica Mauboy and A.B. Original both nominated for six awards for this year’s ARIAs, with many more Indigenous musicians also getting nominated.

The ARIA Awards is the night of nights for Australian music industry, many compare it as the Australian version of the Grammy Awards.

For the seventh year in a row, Darwin’s very own, Jessica Mauboy is nominated once again.
This year, Mauboy has been nominated for six awards including Song of the Year, Best Female Artist, Best Pop Release, Best Australian Live Act and Best Video.

Off their debut album A.B. Original also landed six nominations for their politically charged, Reclaim Australia album.

The rap duo has been nominated for the big award, Album of the Year, as well as Best Group, Breakthrough Artist, Best Urban Album, Best Independent Release and Producer of the Year.
Dan Sultan is also up for three nominations, scoring a nod for Best Male Artist, Best Independent Release and Best Rock Album.

Other Indigenous acts nominated include Archie Roach and Busby Marou.

This year’s award ceremony may pay tribute to ARIA award winner, Dr G Yunupingu after his sudden death earlier this year.

The award ceremony will be held on November 28th in Sydney.
