Aussie sprint star Caleb Ewan is determined to make 2021 the biggest season of his career with a Le Tour Green Jersey as well as sprint victories at all three grand tours in his sights.

The 26-year-old rider had a huge campaign in 2020 with his seven stage wins accounting for more than half of his Lotto Soudal teams’ total haul of 12 stage victories.

The Sydney product is confident he can go to another level this season and, while his team has yet to give him the go-ahead, wants to ride the GiroGiro D’Italia, Tour de France and Vuelta a España in succession.

“My big goal for 2021 is to win stages in all three grand tours in one year,” Ewan said in an interview with VeloNews.
“There haven’t been too many people who’ve done it in the history of cycling, so that’s my big goal.”

Ewan has already recorded wins at all three throughout his career including five stage victories at the Tour de France, five at the Giro D’Italia and one at the Vuelta Espana.

He also hopes to go one better than his second-place finish in the points classification during the 2019 Tour with the green jersey a priority for Ewan this season due to a sprinter friendly Tour de France route in 2021.

“If it’s there, it’s something I will look at,” Ewan said.

“There are a lot of sprints in this year’s Tour, and it is something that I will think about.
“I was waiting for a Tour with a lot of sprints when I won’t have to chase the intermediate sprints, and I can pick up points in the final sprints.”

The star sprinter’s Lotto Soudal will step up their preparations for the upcoming season next week with the Belgian outfit to stage a training camp in Spain.

While the cancellation of the Tour Down Under has given the Ewan a later start to the season than usual, he could be set for one of the longest campaigns yet.
