Kewell, who played 56 times for Australia, will be recognised for his brilliant career when he is inducted in to the SAHOF on Thursday 11th October.
“To be accepted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame is an honour,” Kewell said on the SAHOF website.
“As a footballer, sometimes we are recognised with team awards because it’s a team sport, but if you get the opportunity to receive an award as an individual it’s something really special to me because it’s not just looking at one result, it’s looking at the whole picture, a whole season or your whole career – It’s something special.”
Kewell grew up in Smithfield in Western Sydney, playing for Smithfield Hotspur before joining the Marconi Stallions as a highly-touted teenager.
He made the leap to England as a 15-year-old, signing with Leeds United and went on to have a storied career both in Europe and Australia.
Throughout his career Kewell won a number of prestigious team and individual awards.
He featured in Liverpool’s 2005 Champions League victory, their 2006 FA Cup triumph, Galatasary's 2008 Turkish Super Cup win and was named as the PFA Young Talent of the Year in 2000 while also being named to the PFA Team of the Year during the same season.
With Australia, Kewell was a member of the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cup squads and won the OFC Nations Cup in 2004.
Sport Australia Hall of Fame was established in 1985 and plays a vital role in preserving and perpetuating Australia’s rich sporting heritage, whilst promoting the values of "courage, sportsmanship, integrity, mateship, persistence and excellence".
