Zwift Power Rankings - Stage 20

Drinking champagne out of plastic glasses with no bottoms while staying upright on a bike is all that stands between Egan Bernal and his Tour de France coronation. But who else finished Stage 20 feeling successful and who is feeling a bit meh?

It's often a tough task to tell at a glance which teams are doing well at the Tour de France, there are 22 of them going around France, each with their own objectives and strengths.

To keep an eye on how each team is progressing, Cycling Central is running the Zwift Power Rankings during the Tour de France. It's a quick guide from stage to stage of which teams are excelling and which are unlucky or faring poorly.

Rankings are calculated according to a matrix of stage results, jersey standings and a team's ability to race with panache and flair.

1. Deceuninck-Quickstep (same)

Sure, a 22-year-old is poised to become the first Colombian to ever win the Tour de France in its 116 year history and its 106th edition, but it's this guy we talked about nearly the entire race, and for much of the cycling season.

Gave it his all out there today. Non, je ne regrette rien.

2. Team Ineos (same)

Jumbo-Visma applied the screws on the climb to Val Thorens crushing Julian Alaphilippe's spirit into fifth and earning Steven Kruijswijk a seat at the podium table in Paris. But it's more like one of the non-matching chairs you pull out at Christmas lunch for all the relos, as Geraint Thomas easily parked his butt in the luxurious SkIneos branded seat beside Bernal's throne, reminding everyone while they didn't look stereotypically bot strong this year, the Tour is their party and their man in yellow will cry if he wants to.

These guys worked hard today to get Kruijswijk on the podium, espeically De Plus. Chapeau. Combined with the four stage wins and fourth overall, and depending on our whim tomorrow, may earn a jump over Ineos.

For now, Jumbo-Visma loses points for how the last 24 hours unfolded including moaning the loudest (understandable depending who you ask) about the decision to neuter yesterday's stage but not the GC standings. The team argued Kruijswijk was saving himself for the final climb and if he knew only the ascent of Col de l'Iseran counted he would've....done what exactly? Rode into third? Awesome, but is it all the team and their GC leader were capable of against a man who could become the rider of his generation, if not the last one too?

Who'd a thunk Warren Barguil would sneak in the top 10? Maybe a couple of years ago. The Frenchman went for it in the final Alpine stages including today in the break and finished 11th. Rewarded with a top 10 placing in the top half of the rankings.

Without a stage win, they don't go any higher despite Rigoberto Uran's 7th overall. Michael Woods has animated the breakaways in the final stages while Uran was off the front in a break yesterday before the stage was cancelled. Deserves to go ahead of Trek despite that team's brief yellow stint.
