Sadly, just two more matches remain at FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, with the third place play-off and the final set to serve up more drama to conclude a thrilling tournament.

Our on-location team in Qatar, which consists of SBS World Cup commentators Martin Tyler and David Basheer, along with SBS World Cup reporters Matt Connellan and Adrian Arciuli, gathered on Friday morning in the Souq Waqif, for a roundtable discussion ahead of the final weekend of the tournament.
The third place play-off will see Morocco take on Croatia at Khalifa International Stadium, with live coverage on SBS and SBS On Demand, from 1.30am AEDT on Sunday morning.

SBS World Cup commentator David Basheer hopes the Atlas Lions will be able to rise to the occasion, after losing a number of players to injury during the semi-final loss to France.

“It was like they were all patched up for that semi-final and the elastic band snapped,” said Basheer.

“It was no walkover for France, they had to earn their victory, that was the most important thing for Morocco.”
Following the third place play-off, attention will then turn to one of the most anticipated finals in World Cup history, with Argentina taking on defending champions France at Lusail Iconic Stadium.

SBS World Cup commentator Martin Tyler will call the match and is looking forward to seeing if Lionel Messi can fulfil his dream of lifting the biggest trophy in world football.
“It is extraordinary to think what Messi has done,” Tyler said.

“They lost their first game to Saudi Arabia, we shouldn’t forget that. Only Spain have ever won the World Cup after losing the first game. They aren’t going for unique history but it’s very rarely done. France are going for back-to-back titles which hasn’t been done in 60 years. There are a lot of engrossing facts and figures about the final.”

Our live coverage of the FIFA World Cup final between Argentina and France will begin at 1am AEDT on SBS and SBS On Demand.
