"Australia is an open and tolerant society, and the 2017 legislation for equal marriage is emblematic of the amazing strides the country has made towards LGBTIQ+ equality in recent years," the list's publisher, Linda Riley, said.

She continued: "However, the fact remains that discrimination still exists in the workplace and in wider society as a whole, and we believe that - by shining a light on those whose achievements further the cause of LGBTIQ+ equality - we can play our part in helping to eradicate to scourge of discrimination."

The list's publication coincided with the third Australian LGBTI Awards, which took place last week.
