How a five-year-old girl in fancy dress became an accidental fearless hero

Hearts melted across social media when a five-year-old girl, dressed in a superhero costume, innocently posed for a photo next to the figure of female empowerment, the 'fearless girl' statue, near Wall Street's "Charging Bull" in the USA.

Despite only being up for a matter of days, the "Fearless Girl" statue has already become a New York attraction, with five-year-old Abrianna Tobar Almonte caught posing next to the figure, becoming an instant hit on social media.

Depicted in the photo is Abrianna, standing beside the statue, dressed as one of her favourite superheroes in a bright pink 'Owlette' costume, a character from Disney program "PJ Masks".

The 'Fearless Girl' was erected in Wall Street, just in time for International Women's Day.

The photo of Almonte in fancy dress next to the statue makes an empowering statement, although it was not intentional. Amanda Marmor, a photographer who was at Bowling Green Park where the statue is located discussed the symbolism of the five-year-old's pose to .

"I saw a young girl feeling so confident mirroring the statue and I felt this is everything that statue represented, and especially what the women's strike represents," Marmor tells CNN.
Talking about the significance of the photo, Abrianna's mother Alexandra only recognised the significance after the photos started to appear on social media.

"Now that I see the pictures I get it. It's a very powerful message" Almonte says.
