It is a great day for LGBTIQ+ on-screen talent, with queer actors, comedians and TV shows dominating the 2019 Emmy Awards nominations.

Pose actor Billy Porter continued to make history, becoming the first openly gay black man to be nominated for Lead Actor in a Drama. Pose also received a nomination for Outstanding Drama Series.

“I just haven’t been breathing for the past day,” Porter following the announcement. "So today, I was able to breathe - that was my first reaction!”

“There was no context for this,” he continued.
“I said the same thing about marriage equality. When we were growing up, there was no context because you could never see it. I’ve always had huge dreams but I realised now that my dreams have been springboarded off of things I have already seen.”

“They weren’t about dreaming the impossible. They weren’t about dreaming things that didn’t exist. Ryan Murphy, Steven Canals, Brad Falchuk, FX - everybody involved in the show taught me how to dream the impossible,” Porter added. “The sky is the limit now, honey!”

Then there was Australia's very own Hannah Gadsby, who is nominated for both Outstanding Variety Special (for Nanette) and Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special.
"Nominated for an Emmy! Well I'm pretty chuffed," the comedian tweeted.

Gadsby faces off against industry heavyweights including Beyonce (Homecoming: A Film By Beyonce), Springsteen (Springsteen On Broadway), James Corden and McCartney (Carpool Karaoke: When Corden Met McCartney Live From Liverpool) and comedian Wanda Sykes (Wanda Sykes: Not Normal).

Laverne Cox received another nomination for her role on Netflix series Orange Is The New Black, getting the nod for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series.

Cox took to social media to celebrate the news, tweeting: "I love my Orange family so much!"

She added: "Thank you to the entire Orange team for all your brilliance that made this nomination possible. This is always a team effort and the Orange team is the best in the business!"
Ryan O'Connell's new Netflix series Special, which focuses on the experiences of gay men with disability, was also nominated for three awards in short-form categories: Outstanding Comedy or Drama Series and two Outstanding Actress nominees for the show's stars Punam Patel and Jessica Hecht.

Popular comedy series Schitt's Creek was also finally paid its due, earning a nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series.

The show's stars Catherine O'Hara and Eugene Levy were also nominated for their iconic roles.
