Lil Nas X's VMAs speech gets the meme treatment

Taking to the stage to accept his trophy for 'Song of the Year', the 20-year-old rapper told the crowd: "This is my first award ever."

Well 2019 continues to be the year of Lil Nas X.

Not only did his track 'Old Town Road' hold the no. 1 spot on the Billboard Top 100 for 19 consecutive weeks, the openly gay country/hip-hop artist won his first ever award - taking out the coveted gong for 'Song of the Year' at yesterday’s VMAs.

Taking to the stage to accept his award alongside collaborator Billy Rae Cyrus, the 20-year-old rapper told the crowd: "This is my first award ever."

Turning to Cyrus, he added: "I want to say thank you to this man for helping me take my career to the next level."

Then, because Nas is a child of the internet, he delivered fans the ultimate meme moment - pulling a scrolled 'thank you list' from his pocket and unraveling it, only to reveal that it was blank and step offstage.

Safe to say, you didn't have to tell the internet twice.
