Lizzo celebrates topping charts with longest running Number One single

Lizzo is everyone’s favourite woman in the music business right now and she just gave us all a reason to love her even more.

Her hit song Truth Hurts has this week topped the US billboard Top 100 again, making it the longest running number 1 single by a solo female rapper ever.

The song which was first released back in 2017 has now spent four weeks in the top spot on the charts, surpassing the previous record set by rapper Cardi B when her song Bodak Yellow spent three weeks at the top in 2017,

Queen Lizzo herself marked the occasion of her younger self on Instagram.

"I fell in love with music when I was 9 years old... I know it’s cliche but music was literally my boyfriend. I had no idea our love affair would take me this far," she wrote in the post. 

If this lil Lizzo only knew all that she would accomplish when she picked up that flute, or wrote songs in her room, or forced her friends to make girlbands.. it’s just so humbling to know it was all worth it. Don’t run away from what your heart wants. Follow that bitch to your destiny."
Lizzo is being embraced by fans drawn to her message of . As a black, plus-sized woman she stands apart from a music industry that is depressingly white, male and conventionally attractive.

In a refreshing break from that norm, Lizzo’s music and performances are a spectacular show of black women and their talent. Last month, Lizzo’s performance at the 2019 MTV music awards featured a stage filled with fat, black women dancing alongside her as she sang some of her biggest hits.

Earlier this year, she turned heads when she , breaking their tradition of featuring thin, white and conventionally attractive women.

Her consistently unapologetic visibility in the mainstream has drawn praise from fans and fellow musicians around the world.

Fans have taken to social media to celebrate this latest success with her.

Looking at the commentary it’s clear that there’s no shortage of enthusiasm for what Lizzo brings to the music scene.
