In a love story that rivals any good Hollywood rom-com, a pair of Canadian and U.S. women's hockey greats have tied the knot in what some are calling hockey's 'royal wedding'.
Three-time Canadian women's hockey gold medallist Gillian Apps married U.S. gold medallist Meghan Duggan in Maine over the weekend, with Duggan calling it the "most incredible day" of her entire life.
Needless to say, photos from the ceremony had the internet reaching for tissues.
Team USA released a on the union, writing: "The U.S.-Canada ice hockey rivalry is one of the most storied in team sports, with the two nations competing for every gold medal since the women’s world championship began in 1990."
It continued: "After facing off across from each other at five world championships and two Olympic Games, the couple now faces life’s future adventures together."
Remarkably, Duggan and Apps aren't the first US-Canada hockey rivals to find love on the ice-rink, with former captains Julie Chu, a four-time Olympic medalist for Team USA, and Caroline Ouellette, a four-time Olympic medalist for Canada, announcing late last year that they had welcomed a baby together.
