The first of three new Charmed sisters has been announced - and you'd better believe she's a fierce lesbian witch with the ability to freeze time.

The highly-anticipated reboot of the original series, which screened through the 90s and early 00s, will star actress Melonie Diaz as Mel, who struggles to control her powers after being involved in a ‘tragic accident’. Her girlfriend in the series is yet to be cast.
Diaz has previously starred in shows including Girls, CSI: Miami and Law & Order SVU. Her character will be joined by sisters Macy and Madison.
The new series is already being pegged as a “fierce, funny, feminist reboot of the original series”.

The CW said in a statement: “Between vanquishing supernatural demons, tearing down the patriarchy, and maintaining familial bonds, a witch’s work is never done."

While some fans eagerly anticipate the show's revival, original Charmed cast member Shannen Doherty has taken to twitter to criticise the reboot,

Doherty, who played Prue Halliwell, said: “Charmed was a wonderful empowering show for women” - referencing the CW's claim that the revival would be "feminist".

She later added: “[The CW’s] wording is terrible and a bit offensive. But, everyone makes mistakes. Perhaps with the backlash they will be more thoughtful in the future.”
