Where to celebrate one year of marriage equality in Australia

November 15 marks one year since the same-sex marriage postal survey results were announced.

It's almost been an entire year since members of Australian LGBTIQ+ community huddled together to hear the results of the national same-sex marriage postal survey.

Now, as we approach the November 15th anniversary, numerous organisations, community groups and venues around the country are planning to celebrate, debate, march and party to remember what was, for so many, a difficult period.

Here are some of the events:

Reflecting on Marriage Equality, ANU Gender Institute, Acton - Nov 12

Focusing on the legal and political issues associated with the campaign for marriage equality, the ANU Gender Institute's anniversary event includes a discussion with The Equality Campaign's Tiernan Brady.

One Year On, Stonewall Hotel, Sydney, Nov 15

Hosted by Minnie Cooper and Rhys Bobridge, the Stonewall Hotel's 'One Year On' party is entry by gold coin donation, with funds going to LGBTIQ+ youth initiative Wear It Purple. With a fun lineup of DJs and guest speakers, the night of celebration on Sydney's Oxford Street kicks off at 6pm.

Held at The 86 Cabaret Bar in Fitzroy, the 'Year of Yes' event is an opportunity for community members to catch up for speeches and beers while sharing videos and photos from a number of local same-sex wedding ceremonies.

Yes! Anniversary Rally: No Exemptions from Equality, Sydney, Nov 15

Held by Community Action Against Homophobia, this one-year anniversary rally is protesting Prime Minister Scott Morrison's proposed religious exemptions, encouraging members of the local LGBTIQ+ community to 'stand up once again against homophobia and transphobia'.

Westgay's 1st Birthday, A Year of Yes, Victoria, Nov 17

Presented by CLOSET and Fannys at Franny's, Westgay is a 'big gay party' for Melbourne's west - and it's first birthday just so happens to coincide with the anniversary of same-sex marriage being approved by the Australian public. The event runs from 8pm until 3am with cocktails and a great lineup of local DJs.
