On Friday 20th of January, Nethra Krishnamurthy had just breastfed her infant son, Hari at daycare and was returning to her office, when she was run over at a speed of over 80km/h in the Bourke St rampage.
This was her first week at work at an IT company in Melbourne CBD after returning from maternity leave.
Nethra has sustained serious injuries, which include deep lacerations to her head, a punctured lung, damage to her liver and kidneys, as well as broken ribs and fractures to her spine in three different places.
Nethra was rushed to Hospital and underwent emergency surgery for several hours. She is presently in Intensive Care, in a critical but stable condition.
With no family support in Melbourne, the family has roped in help of friends and colleagues to take care of their infant son while her husband Mohan Kumar cares for his wife in hospital.
The community has already donated $12,000 for Nethra and her son’s care.
VICTORIAN GOVERNMENT SETS UP BOURKE ST FUND
The Victorian Government has for the families affected by the incident. It pledged an initial $100,000 and said anyone who wanted to make a donation can do so.

The fund will complement other services and support provided by the Victorian Government particularly for those who were injured or who witnessed the Bourke Street tragedy.
