New research from Australian Sports Commission showed that close to two thirds (59%) or more than 14 million Australians play some kinds of sports , but one-thirds got injured according to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) .  But how can Australians prevent themselves from injuring and enhancing their performances, who should they seek help from or what king of information should they pursue.

CEO Antony Nicholas said that there are many Australians who played different types of sports in 2017.
"What we know is, generally in Australia, two-thirds of Australians has played sports in the last twelve months, and that ranges from people who might be professional to people who might be weekends warriors to someone who watch something like the Commonwealth Games, get very enthused and think they can rush out and be excellent sprinter, or high jumpers or join a sport team," said Mr. Nicholas.
The AIHW's report shows that one-thirds (1 in 3 or 37%) or more than 5 million Australians sustained injuries. But what are the important and benefits of warming up preparing someone so they can prevent injuries.
"Quite often if people don’t prepare, if you are not in good shape or if your muscles are a bit tight, clearly that can leads to injure themselves to lots of injuries, therefore sort of defeat the purposes of going and playing sports in the first place. So to prepare your body to when you suddenly burst into energy and things like that is very important. So it is really important to know that preliminary chance to find out whether you might injure yourself but it is also preparing your muscles to perform better when you needed," asserted chief executive of Osteopathy Mr. Antony Nicholas.
Therefore, during Osteopathy Awareness Week from the 15-21 April 2018, Mr. Nicholas the director of Osteopathy Australia would like to give some advices to Australian public who would like to play sports.
"Partly is what we are trying to do is raising awareness that people should think about getting a health check, and tuned up before they are going to play sports. We know that lots of Australians will be watching the Commonwealth Games get all enthused about going out playing sports, and what we are recommending is if you want to do that and haven’t done for a while, really go along and see your health practitioners like Osteopaths to assess how is your body is, how your form of your muscles and bones and joints are, so they can help you with trying to prevent injuries and making sure that you are ready to perform your best when you are on the sport field," added Mr. Nicholas.
Report also shows that preparing our bodies before playing sports are very crucial and can benefits those who do so.
"What research is showing is actually that more dynamic stretching where people are constantly moving. By doing that it is better for sports, but it is really trying to warm up those muscles so that they are loosed they are flexible, before you going out to play any sports. So you know that you are not getting muscles tension, or strains anywhere, so you almost identifying to start off with whether that is a problem, I may need to see someone about that or I will have to be careful when I am doing this," Mr. Antony Nicholas maintained.
Nowadays, people are bombarded with tons of information that make people confused which are the best ways to prepare them to avoid sport injuries.
Mr. Nocholas affirmed that "There are millions of advices about stretches and exercises, partly that might be a reason for you to see your health practitioner who understand what kind of sports you gonna play, what injuries or strains you may have, and therefore what bit of warm up exercises or stretches or therapies are best suited for you in the sports you wanna play."
This is when Osteopaths or other sport health professionals jump in.
“Osteopaths might be really helpful if you are already playing sports or you are planning to go onto sport is almost getting your body into check up to see how your muscles bones and joints are going. They can help identify whether if there is problem with your posture, or how your moving, your vyned mechanics to see if there might be a strain that might place you at risk of an injuries when you are playing sports. And so part of their roles is identifying your body’s health, whether there is any strain to note that they might be able to treat to loosen up those muscles or constriction in the joints that might later leads to injuries. So really it is a bit tuned up for your body before you go at sports but also identifying any problem hoping to prevent injury,” suggested Mr. Nicholas.
But Mr. Nicholas said that Osteopaths are not the only health professional that we can get help from.
"Whether they are going to speak to their GPs or they already seeing their remedied masseurs or physical therapists. They also can help. Or if they wanna find out where their Osteopaths is they can go and see them and get some information, because osteopaths really focus on your bodies, but any good health profession should be able to give you some advices to sort of prevent you from injuries," asserted Mr. Nicholas.#
