ASC Spotlight Award recognizes Warwick Thornton's cinematic Brilliance in 'The New Boy'

Warwick Thornton's "The New Boy" keeps collecting accolades! The film recently won the prestigious American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) Spotlight Award, adding to its growing list of honors. Featuring Aswan Reid's debut performance alongside Cate Blanchett and Deborah Mailman, the film received critical acclaim and is set to premiere in the United Kingdom and Ireland before its North American release.


In a conversation with NITV Radio Warwick Thornton explained how the film explores themes of spiritual struggle, the impact of the Christian belief system imposed by colonization on Indigenous society and spirituality.

Warwick also praised Aswan Reid’s powerful performance in “The New Boy” which has recently earned him the Best Actor award at The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards ceremony.
