A former student of Punjabi University Patiala, Harjinder fell in love with Punjabi language before deciding to commit his time to Punjabi poetry.
Harjinder spent his early life in Punjab in India before migrating to Australia.
“This was just a beginning. I always wanted to have a better relationship with my mother tongue, Punjabi, and I feel there is no better way to cherish this relationship other than poetry,” said Mr Singh in an interview with ’s .
Mr Singh feels that his relationship with Punjabi language and poetry is now becoming deeper and more satisfying.

“There are people of Punjabi-orgin who want to fall in love with their mother tongue. But living on a foreign land they struggle to find a way out,” says Singh.
“Life is a struggle, let it be India or abroad. But if we keep complaining we’ll never be able to commit ourselves to our family and community,” says Singh. “Initially, this was the idea and my message to the community that passes through my poetry.”
“The rise of social media has helped young writers touch horizons. There was little acknowledgement for the new writers in the past.”
“Now days, you don’t need to publish a book to express yourself. It can all be done with the help of social media as long as you are sincere and committed to this effort.”
“With the new Facebook and Instagram trends, poets can now find a source of pride and personal growth in their own language.”

Talking about the extremist attacks against writers and intellectuals in India, Mr Singh said that there is new wave that could be potentially dangerous to anyone with opposing viewpoint in India.
“There are worrying signs suggesting that intrinsic right to freedom of is under threat and Government’s silence on the subject appears to be even worrying,” said Mr Singh.

ਸਿਨੇਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਖੋਜਣਾ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਅਜੇ । ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਬੜੇ ਡਰ ਨੇ ਜਿੰਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹਰ ਦਿਨ ਲੜਨਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਕਿ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਹੋਰ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਕੋਣ ਤੋਂ ਦੇਖ ਸਕਾਂ .. ਕਵਿਤਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਭ ਆਪਾ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੇ ਚਾਹੇ ਜ਼ੁਬਾਨ , ਹੱਥ ਪੈਰ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਕੰਮ ਨਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਫੇਰ ਵੀ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਹੀ ਰਹੇਗੀ , ਮੈਂ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਲਿਖਣ ਦਾ ਵੱਲ ਸਿੱਖਣ ਦੇ ਅਭਿਆਸ 'ਚ ਹਾਂ.....~ਹਰਜਿੰਦਰ ਜੌਹਲ
