Star of the Month: Debi Makhsoospuri

Debi Makhsoospuri is a famous Punjabi singer, songwriter and poet. He is currently in Australia for his singing concerts. In this conversation with SBS Punjabi's Preetinder Singh Grewal, Mr Makhsoospuri explained his love for Punjabi singing and poetry.

Debi Makhsoospuri original name Gurdev Singh Gill was born on 10 June 1966 in Makhsoospur, a village in the Hoshiarpur district of Punjab.

Debi got his break at the age of 20 when he started writing for Kuldeep Manak. Since then he has written songs and poetry for artists such as Sardool Sikander, Hans Raj Hans, Manmohan Waris and Kamal Heer.

Debi made his singing debut in 1994 with the album Jad Maa Nayi Rehndi. He has released 13 studio albums and 4 live albums so far.

Debi currently resides in Canada with his family, including his three daughters.
