The 2023 edition was slated to be in Nanjing, China but was postponed last year, so Glasgow will be the athletes' first opportunity in two years to become repeat winners, or new champions in their respective events.

2022 in Belgrade saw multiple world records broken, with Mondo Duplantis (Sweden) breaking his own mark to win gold in the men's pole vault, and Yulimar Rojas (Venezeula) becoming the first athlete to win three world indoor triple jump titles - breaking her own world record in the process.
